Dexcom sensors have a specific shelf life from date of manufacture. Understanding this matters both for your personal use and for resale timing.
Dexcom G7 sensors are manufactured with approximately 12–18 months of shelf life from the production date. When you receive them from your pharmacy, they typically have 6–12 months remaining until expiration.
G6 sensors have a similar shelf life — approximately 12–18 months from manufacture. G6 transmitters have a shorter shelf life once manufactured (about 12 months) because they contain a battery that slowly depletes even when unused.
Find the expiration date on the bottom of the individual sensor foil packaging and on the outer box. G7 format: MM/YYYY. For example, "09/2026" means the sensor is good through the end of September 2026.
| Time Until Expiration | Action |
|---|---|
| 6+ months | Full price — sell anytime |
| 3–6 months | Sell now — small reduction |
| Under 3 months | Not accepted by StripValue |
| Expired | No resale value |
The lesson: check your backup supply stock every 3–4 months. If you have sensors expiring in 4–5 months, start the selling process now rather than waiting until they're under the 3-month cutoff.
